Today we started a family band, not unlike The Carpenters or The Jonas Brothers. We gathered all the instruments we could find: maracas, tambourines, whistles, a ukulele, and a harmonica. The one item I refuse to buy? Drums. So we made them. You know the type, oatmeal canisters fancified with markers and crepe paper. Note to self: rubber cement is not an appropriate adhesive medium for preschoolers. Come to think of it, not appropriate for someone like myself. We also found this website: http://www.balloondrums.com/howtomakeyourown.html, adding balloon drums to our array of musical instruments. And then we played. We jammed out to Hank Williams (chosen by popular vote). It was awesome.
